Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above Weight Upon the Lord

Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above Weight Upon the Lord

Support and encouragement for Christian men in their journey to maintain good health.

Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above

Yesterday morning my younger daughter and I went to the ‘traditional’ worship service.  (My wife was playing oboe in the church orchestra, and we wanted to hear her.)  One of the hymns we sang, Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above, has many great truths about our life in Christ. The words, though, can be somewhat daunting if you haven’t sung hymns much before.  In order to aid you in your understanding of this great hymn, I’ve taken the liberty of paraphrasing the verses - hopefully I’ll have captured the underlying meaning of the text for you. They are great lyrics to start out our week:

Sing praise to the God who created everything, the loving and powerful God who saved us!

He fills me with his healing power, and when I lose faith, he calms me

I will give Him all my praise and glory!

When I am stressed or grieving, the Lord is close by;

He is always here, giving me peace and joy.

Just as a mother leads her children,

God leads those who call Him ‘Father’:

I will give Him all my praise and glory!

So every day of this hard life I will sing my praises to Him,

I want the world to hear my song of gratefulness - my voice nevers gets tired singing it!

I will praise God with my heart, my soul, and my body - all of me!

I will give Him all my praise and glory!

Everyone who calls Jesus their lord should give Him praise!

Everyone who draws from His power, share God’s story with others!

Don’t let anything be the center of your worship but Christ,

Because Christ is the only Lord of our lives

I will give Him all my praise and glory!

1. Sing praise to God who reigns above, the God of all creation,

the God of power, the God of love, the God of our salvation.

With healing balm my soul is filled and every faithless murmur stilled:

To God all praise and glory.

2. The Lord is never far away, but through all grief distressing,

an ever present help and stay, our peace and joy and blessing.

As with a mother’s tender hand, God gently leads the chosen band:

To God all praise and glory.

3. Thus all my toilsome way along, I sing aloud thy praises,

that earth may hear the grateful song my voice unwearied raises.

Be joyful in the Lord, my heart, both soul and body bear your part:

To God all praise and glory.

4. Let all who name Christ’s holy name give God all praise and glory;

let all who own his power proclaim aloud the wondrous story!

Cast each false idol from its throne, for Christ is Lord, and Christ alone:

To God all praise and glory.
